Programs and Services

Women and Children’s Clothing

WGB is proud to be recognized as valuable resource partner to nearly 300 Referral Agency Partners which include shelters, transitional and permanent supportive housing programs, medical facilities, group homes, schools, government agencies, and faith based organizations; all who send their eligible clients and residents to WGB through our secured online referral registration system by the client’s case manager or social worker.

Once any referral is received and approved by WGB, the shopper attends one of the month’s store day shifts that are most convenient for them. WGB offers multiple Store Day options each month to allow women to conveniently shop for clothing for themselves and their children, free of charge.

Each guest may shop for up to:

  • 50 articles of clothing
  • 5 pairs of shoes
  • 1 coat
  • 1 purse
  • 3 jewelry pieces
  • 2 bras

Childcare and breakfast are provided onsite in our designated play area. WGB also holds private shopping days for shelters and organizations to transport their clients (group sizes range from 8 to 45 shoppers) at a convenient time for their staff and drivers.

Confidentiality is of the utmost importance to our organization, no matter the shopping time or date.

Bag-To-Go Program

There are times our clients cannot get to the store, or wait until the next store date. Bag to Go request forms are submitted by case managers or social workers who gather information on the women and children’s clothing and shoes sizes so that our volunteers can pack the bags with the appropriate woman and children’s needs.

  • The majority of WGB’s Bag to Go requests come from domestic violence shelters as they are fleeing their abusers with nothing but the clothes on their back.
  • We also receive Bag to Go orders from Human Trafficking and Inmate Re-Entry programs; as well as Government Agencies including FBI Victim Services.
  • The Bag to Go is picked up by the case manager, social worker or agent.

Diaper Pantry

Diapers are necessary healthcare products. One in three families do not have enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry and healthy. Women Giving Back wants to change that. Since 2020 we have been covering the amount of diapers a struggling family is short of each month, known as the diaper gap. We are a partner of the Greater DC Diaper Bank in the fight to eliminate the diaper gap in the Greater Washington DC area. If you have diapers or wipes that you wish to donate, please drop them off in the blue bin (located next to our back warehouse door). Our greatest needs are size 5 and 6 diapers.

Snack Pack Program

The Capital Area Food Bank’s 2021 Hunger Report cited that 1 out of 10 residents of the Greater Washington Metro region is food insecure.  Nearly ⅓ of them are children.  WGB’s Snack Pack initiative provides convenient bundles of easy-to-prepare meals for kids.  Every Snack Pack is unique; all are packed with love by off-site volunteers and distributed to our clients.

Businesses, schools, and community groups are invited lead a Snack Pack project at their location and deliver them to WGB.  Ready to get started and help fight childhood hunger? Email us at info@womengivingback.org to get your toolkit and guide to get started today! We do ask for a minimum of 100 snack bags to be donated.

Prom Boutique

Our Prom Boutique is an annual initiative created to meet the needs of homeless or low-income students during the prom season. The goal is to make every young woman feel special, beautiful, empowered, and confident.

Receiving a gown presents an opportunity to experience a once-in-a-lifetime event they might otherwise not be able to participate in due to the expense of purchasing a dress. They also get to “shop” for jewelry, shoes, make-up & nail polish; all free of charge.

Back to School Supplies Program

At the end of each summer, we implore our children to participate in their education and enter the new school year with confidence. This program provides children and youth (kindergarten through high school) from low-income families with back to school clothes, shoes, new backpacks and homework supplies.

Having appropriate clothing and supplies boosts students’ self-esteem and alleviates the visible burden of poverty. As a result, students are more incentivized to attend school because they can do so without feeling different. Students are able to focus on their education, instead of worrying about “fitting in.”

Halloween Program

WGB helps over 300 children express their inner ghoul, superhero, cartoon character or princess every October by providing them free Halloween costumes.

Holiday Gifts For Kids Program

Our annual Santa’s Workshop distributes over 6,000 toys to hundreds of children, bringing the magic of the holidays with the help of more than 100 volunteer elves.

The philosophy behind Santa’s Workshop allows mothers the option to choose gifts and bicycles, empowering them and allowing them to contribute to their children’s happiness and quality of life, free from financial concerns and limitations.
