Diapers Distributed

Diaper Pantry

Diapers are necessary healthcare products. One in three families do not have enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry and healthy. Women Giving Back wants to change that. Since 2020 we have been covering the amount of diapers a struggling family is short of each month, known as the diaper gap. We are a partner of the Greater DC Diaper Bank in the fight to eliminate the diaper gap in the Greater Washington DC area. If you have diapers or wipes that you wish to donate, please drop them off in the blue bin (located next to our back warehouse door). Our greatest needs are size 5 and 6 diapers.

Snack Packs

The Capital Area Food Bank’s 2021 Hunger Report cited that 1 out of 10 residents of the Greater Washington Metro region is food insecure. Nearly ⅓ of them are children. WGB’s Snack Pack initiative provides convenient bundles of easy-to-prepare meals for kids. Every Snack Pack is unique; all are packed with love by off-site volunteers and distributed to our clients. Businesses, schools, and community groups are invited lead a Snack Pack project at their location and deliver them to WGB. Ready to get started and help fight childhood hunger? Email us at [email protected] to get your toolkit and guide to get started today! We do ask for a minimum of 100 snack bags to be donated.

Prom Boutique

Our Prom Boutique is an annual initiative created to meet the needs of homeless or low-income students during the prom season. The goal is to make every young woman feel special, beautiful, empowered, and confident.

Receiving a gown presents an opportunity to experience a once-in-a-lifetime event they might otherwise not be able to participate in due to the expense of purchasing a dress. They also get to “shop” for jewelry, shoes, make-up & nail polish; all free of charge.

Shop With Pride

Dignity and pride go hand in hand, so every year during Pride Month we hold a special event inviting all LGBTQ+ youth and young adults looking for female gender-affirming clothes to shop our boutique at no cost.

Back to School

At the end of each summer, we implore our children to participate in their education and enter the new school year with confidence. This program provides children and youth (kindergarten through high school) from low-income families with back to school clothes, shoes, new backpacks and homework supplies.

Having appropriate clothing and supplies boosts students’ self-esteem and alleviates the visible burden of poverty. As a result, students are more incentivized to attend school because they can do so without feeling different. Students are able to focus on their education, instead of worrying about “fitting in.”

Halloween

WGB helps over 300 children express their inner ghoul, superhero, cartoon character or princess every October by providing them free Halloween costumes.

Military Shopping Days

We salute and celebrate the loved ones of our country’s men and women in uniform to recognize the sacrifices they have made in support of our Nation’s heroes. During the Month of the Military Child (April) and National Veterans & Military Family Appreciation Month (November), we open our boutique doors to military families to come shop for women and children’s clothing at no cost.

Our annual Santa’s Workshop distributes over 6,000 toys to hundreds of children, bringing the magic of the holidays with the help of more than 100 volunteer elves.

Holiday Gifts for Kids

The philosophy behind Santa’s Workshop allows mothers the option to choose gifts and bicycles, empowering them and allowing them to contribute to their children’s happiness and quality of life, free from financial concerns and limitations.
