Helping Women and Children in Crisis by Distributing Clothing and Other Essentials at No Cost

UPDATES & CURRENT EVENTS

Our Kids Summer Extravaganza was an absolute blast this past month! While parents shopped in the Boutique, kids enjoyed Kona Ice, balloon animals, cornhole, and visits from some incredible Star Wars characters courtesy of the Theresa Sondra Jacobs Foundation.

This year, we served 171 women and more than 400 children, making it one of our most joyful summer events. Beyond the fun and games, families also had the opportunity to connect with community partners who shared valuable resources and services, helping ensure everyone left with both practical support and a few extra smiles.

Events like this are such a powerful reminder of what our community can accomplish together, and we are so grateful to everyone who helped make the morning such a success. We’re already looking forward to next year!

June 23rd marked another wonderful Shop with Pride, our annual partnership with Equality Loudoun that provides LGBTQ+ youth and young adults with the opportunity to shop for free gender-affirming clothing in a welcoming environment.

While this event serves a smaller number of clients than many of our other programs, its impact is immeasurable. For many attendees, finding clothing that reflects who they are can be an empowering experience that builds confidence and helps them feel truly seen.

We're grateful to our partners at Equality Loudoun and the NOVA Prism Center, as well as our incredible volunteers from Apple Federal Credit Union, who helped create such a warm and affirming atmosphere. A special thank you also goes to Loudoun Hunger Relief for providing snacks and pastries for our shoppers and volunteers.

It was heartening to welcome even more participants than in previous years, and we're proud to offer this meaningful event as part of our commitment to ensuring every person who walks through our doors is treated with dignity, respect, and care.

We were honored to join Inova and so many incredible nonprofit partners at the 2026 Community Health Opportunities Luncheon.

Women Giving Back is proud to be one of 26 organizations selected to receive funding this year, including one of nine recipients serving Loudoun County. This support will help us to grow programs like the Empowerment Hub, Workforce Development Station, and Career Closet.

One of our favorite parts of the event was seeing so many organizations gathered in one room, all working toward the same goal: creating healthier, stronger communities throughout Northern Virginia. Thank you to Inova for investing in this work!

Some volunteers truly go the extra mile - and then a few hundred more!

This month, one of our dedicated volunteers, Cyndi Shanahan, rented a moving truck, helped load nearly 10,000 pieces of clothing (more than 200 bags and boxes), and then drove the shipment with her husband to Wise, Virginia.

Their efforts not only helped provide much-needed clothing to another community but also freed up valuable warehouse space for incoming donations and the changing seasons.

Thanks to their generosity and initiative, thousands of winter items that might otherwise have remained in storage for months are now finding their way to families who can put them to good use. We're incredibly appreciative for volunteers who see a need and help make it happen.

We were grateful for the support of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group last month. In addition to spending time with us in the Warehouse sorting and preparing donations for our clients, the group also coordinated a donation drive during its Women in Leadership Conference.

The response was so generous that the collected donations exceeded what could fit in a single vehicle and required additional transportation to reach WGB. These clothes have since been sorted by our amazing volunteers and now stock our Boutique.

We appreciate everyone who contributed items, volunteered their time, and helped turn a conference gathering into meaningful support for our community.

LOOKING AHEAD

Every year, Women Giving Back helps families in need to start the school year with confidence! We're counting on your generosity to make it happen again this year.

From now until July 31st, we're calling on you to donate new, durable bookbags and tennis shoes for our Back to School event. The start of the school year can be a stressful time for low-income families; let's join together to make it a little easier.

Our donation bins are completely empty, and we need your help refilling them! Thanks to our volunteers, our donations are being processed and making their way to the Boutique more smoothly than ever, but as we restock, we're especially in need of:

• Women's clothing in (XS and S)

• Maternity clothing

• Children's clothing (2T-Youth 18)

If you're cleaning out closets this summer, we'd love for you to consider donating gently used summer clothing. Each month, Women Giving Back serves approximately 1,200 women and children, and these particular sizes are consistently in highest demand. Your donations help ensure every client has access to clothing that fits both their needs and the season.

Our Diaper Pantry continues to be an incredible resource for local families, serving more than 530 infants each month in 2025.

On just one Thursday this June, the Pantry provided diapers for more than 320 babies, while families also connected with community partners including Loudoun Serenity House, Healthy Families Loudoun, HealthWorks, and LAWS, making it a one-stop opportunity for both essential supplies and valuable resources.

As summer arrives, the need for diapers continues to grow. We typically increase the number of diapers distributed during the warmer months, but demand has risen so quickly that we've already had to place another bulk order to keep our shelves stocked.

If your family has unopened boxes of diapers that are no longer needed - or if you've been thinking about hosting a diaper drive - we would be so grateful for your support. We distribute Newborn through Size 6, with our greatest current need being Sizes 3–6.

Set it and Forget it! Make a Lasting Impact Each Month!

The need in our community is growing, and your steady support helps us meet it head-on.

By becoming a monthly donor, you’re joining a special group of changemakers who ensure women and children in crisis have access to clothing, resources, and hope - all year long.

It’s easy, automatic, and incredibly powerful. Just set it once, and know you’re making a difference every single month.  When giving monthly is simple and recurring, the support never stops, and the impact lasts a lifetime!

QTS Makes Connections That Matter

QTS Data Centers once again proved that they know how to help keep our mission running! As part of their annual Juneteenth Day of Service, nearly 60 employees volunteered throughout the WGB Warehouse, bringing plenty of energy, teamwork, and heart.

This powerhouse group all but emptied our donation bins, sorted and hung clothing for the Boutique, and even treated everyone in the building to lunch - helping keep both volunteers and staff fully charged throughout the day.

As if that wasn't enough, QTS also presented $10,000 donations to both Women Giving Back and our neighbors at Loudoun Hunger Relief, reinforcing their commitment to strengthen the community we all serve.

Through hands-on service, generous funding, and simply showing up ready to help, the QTS team made a tremendous impact. We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and for a group that continues to show up in huge ways.
