Speaking of golf, the International Country Club in Fairfax held their 14th annual Ladies Charity Golf Tournament earlier this month. This year's event was spearheaded by WGB annual sponsor Bette Rutherford, and WGB was fortunate enough to be selected as the beneficiary. The event raised an incredible $21,000 in proceeds, and participants helped fill the van with clothing donations as well! We were overwhelmed with gratitude by the support of these women, and it was great seeing some of our volunteers playing too!

WGB had the honor and pleasure of participating in this year's P7 Fashion Show fundraiser benefitting the Silence No More Movement, a nonprofit dedicated to building platforms that will sustain the growth of domestic violence victims, allowing them to survive and thrive. As the population served by SNMM is so close to WGB's mission, it was fitting that our own CEO Nicole Morris was included in the roster of models walking the runway-- all local leaders of their respective fields and industries. It was a beautiful and moving night raising awareness and support for this meaningful cause.

GreatNonprofits is an impactful resource allowing community members to share stories of the amazing work done by nonprofit organizations. The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Awards program was started in 2010 and is now widely known as the most influential "people's choice" awards for outstanding nonprofits, large and small. The 2023 Top-Rated List honoring highly regarded nonprofits will be determined soon, and earning this badge can help organizations increase both donor and volunteer support, as well as strengthen community loyalty.
If you love our work, then tell the world! Stories about us from supporters like you will help us make an even bigger impact in our community. A brief story about your experience with WGB could help us keep our place on the Top-Rated list and further expand our visibility. All content will be accessible to potential donors and volunteers on the GreatNonprofits website.

September 18th - 24th was National Diaper Need Awareness Week. In the past decade, the prevalence of diaper need across our country has increased nearly 15%— almost every other family lacks a sufficient supply of diapers to keep their babies dry, clean, and healthy. Comfort and wellbeing are so crucial during early development; poor hygiene can lead to infections, which in turn can interfere with proper feeding/nutrition, sleep, and growth.
Aside from the hygiene standpoint, diaper need can also affect caregivers' ability to work (no clean diapers means no childcare), further compounding the struggle to keep up with expenses for essentials. The mental health stressors become twofold: the anxiety of how to secure basic necessities creates personal guilt and depression in a provider who can't provide. Oftentimes personal relationships suffer as well.
WGB works hard to help alleviate this need in our community with the help of generous donors and Greater DC Diaper Bank, one of our nonprofit partners who regularly delivers diapers for us to distribute through our pantry. Together we can narrow the gap between diaper need and sufficiency.
If you would like to help stock our diaper pantry, consider these options:
Thanks to the Enterprise Holdings Foundation for donating $2,000 to WGB! Its support will help further our mission of helping women and children in crisis on a first step to stability.
Help our kids express their inner ghouls, superheroes, princesses, and characters on Halloween! We are accepting donations of new or gently used costumes to distribute next month. Family-friendly adult costumes are welcome too! Please be sure all accessories come as a complete set.
Costume donations can be dropped off during scheduled times or placed in the blue bin at our warehouse entrance at your convenience.

Any socks are welcome as long as they are new!

Believe it or not, we are already starting our Winter Coat collection! These are hot items that fly off our racks as soon as we get them in, so we need to stock up early to ensure every woman and child who needs one gets one.
We also accept other winter items like gloves/mittens, scarves, hats, snow pants, boots, and new socks.
Help give the gift of warmth by donating items during our scheduled donation times, or host a drive with your neighbors, friends, or coworkers!
CREW Northern Virginia hosted another successful and informative resume writing workshop with us! It was a great way to empower and build confidence in our women who are turning over a new leaf in their lives, especially during Workforce Development Month!
