Speaking of golf, the International Country Club in Fairfax held their 14th annual Ladies Charity Golf Tournament earlier this month. This year's event was spearheaded by WGB annual sponsor Bette Rutherford, and WGB was fortunate enough to be selected as the beneficiary. The event raised an incredible $21,000 in proceeds, and participants helped fill the van with clothing donations as well! We were overwhelmed with gratitude by the support of these women, and it was great seeing some of our volunteers playing too!

WGB had the honor and pleasure of participating in this year's P7 Fashion Show fundraiser benefitting the Silence No More Movement, a nonprofit dedicated to building platforms that will sustain the growth of domestic violence victims, allowing them to survive and thrive. As the population served by SNMM is so close to WGB's mission, it was fitting that our own CEO Nicole Morris was included in the roster of models walking the runway-- all local leaders of their respective fields and industries. It was a beautiful and moving night raising awareness and support for this meaningful cause.

September 18th - 24th was National Diaper Need Awareness Week. In the past decade, the prevalence of diaper need across our country has increased nearly 15%— almost every other family lacks a sufficient supply of diapers to keep their babies dry, clean, and healthy. Comfort and wellbeing are so crucial during early development; poor hygiene can lead to infections, which in turn can interfere with proper feeding/nutrition, sleep, and growth.
Aside from the hygiene standpoint, diaper need can also affect caregivers' ability to work (no clean diapers means no childcare), further compounding the struggle to keep up with expenses for essentials. The mental health stressors become twofold: the anxiety of how to secure basic necessities creates personal guilt and depression in a provider who can't provide. Oftentimes personal relationships suffer as well.
WGB works hard to help alleviate this need in our community with the help of generous donors and Greater DC Diaper Bank, one of our nonprofit partners who regularly delivers diapers for us to distribute through our pantry. Together we can narrow the gap between diaper need and sufficiency.

Believe it or not, we are already starting our Winter Coat collection! These are hot items that fly off our racks as soon as we get them in, so we need to stock up early to ensure every woman and child who needs one gets one.
We also accept other winter items like gloves/mittens, scarves, hats, snow pants, boots, and new socks.
Help give the gift of warmth by donating items during our scheduled donation times, or host a drive with your neighbors, friends, or coworkers!
