Volunteer Spotlight Carlina Leferink |
Carlina Lefrink has been one of our most recurring volunteers over the past couple of months logging over 90 hours of service. Her dedication and passion for helping others has inspired us all. As she returns back home to Holland next week, we wanted to spotlight and thank her for her incredible work here at WGB! Thank you Carlina!
"I’m from Holland and I’ve lived the past 3 months here in the United States and I wanted to do some volunteering. My family recommended this organization [WGB], so I looked into it while I was still in Holland, and I immediately liked it! I’ve had such a fun time these months! The organization is so well organized, and everyone is so sweet and welcoming! I’ve tried all the shifts and I feel really grateful that I got to work here, and I’ve learned a lot. Through my volunteer experience, I became a lot more grateful for everything I have and had in the past. I learned that I could do something really small, and that thing can make a huge impact on someone else. And I’ve got inspired to maybe make an organization of my own someday!
My favorite shifts were definitely the Thanksgiving Food Distribution Day and Santa’s Workshop! Everyone was in such a good mood, and I liked seeing the room upstairs turned into a toy store! I also liked helping at the front desk with Alex and Erica and help some people out using my Spanish (which I think even improved while I was here). Every shift was a good experience because I’ve met so many nice people. Keep up the good work! You women are doing an amazing job making so many women and children happy by everything you do. I’ll miss you all!"
