July 2022

July was an exciting month! We had plenty of volunteer groups and activities around the warehouse and boutique. We were able to serve over 700 women and children with clothing throughout this month!

Thank you to our group volunteers for volunteering with WGB in the month of July!

  • Potomac School Summer Camp
  • 7x24 Exchange
  • Cherry Bekaert
  • NVBIA
  • Terraforma Church

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer at WGB? We have a ton of volunteer shifts available here.

A HUGE thank you to 7x24 Exchange for sponsoring a portion of our school supplies program AND coming in to volunteer with us to assemble the backpacks for distribution. We are so grateful for your continued partnership on this program!

July Volunteer Spotlight

Sheila Singleton-Green

Sheila Singleton-Green is a familiar face in the children’s section of the warehouse and boutique. A volunteer since 2019, Sheila recently hit the milestone of 305 hours (she points out it would be a lot more if it weren’t for COVID and not being able to come in for many months). She and her husband Alfred have been married 24 years and she has a daughter Carmen and two granddaughters (who have also come in to help), named Ryan and Cienna.  Sheila is also a valuable member of our warehouse committee, representing the children’s department. We’re grateful for Sheila’s enthusiasm, guidance for other volunteers and organizational prowess! She says she’s loved every minute of volunteering and we do love her!

Silence No More

Women Giving Back was honored to be a part of "Silence No More" Annual Ceremony organized by Lisa Jones this year. The Silence No More movement recognizes the strength of survivors and the support systems that got them there.

Women Giving Back is proud to attend and support an event that highlights the stories, struggles, and resilience of survivors of domestic violence. This community event focused on ways to build a system that sustains victims for a minimum of two years. WOW!

The Linda Rabbitt Dressing Room

Linda Rabbitt, founder of rand* construction and our very own Keynote Speaker at the Women's Empowerment Luncheon, is a source of inspiration to all women. Built from the ground up, Linda Rabbit's leadership grew rand* into a $400 million national multi-market construction corporation. In honor of Linda and her contributions as a woman in the workforce, we have dedicated Women Giving Back's dressing room to her. We hope that this inspires every woman that enters our dressing room to achieve her dreams!

WGB Provides Assistance to Afghan Refugees

Women Giving Back has been providing clothing and shoes Afghan refugees who are sponsored by the U.S. Government. They have been arriving for months and continue to arrive. We have provided thousands of culture-appropriate pieces of clothing to women, men and children including teens. We also partnered with BRAWS to provide bras to the women, many who have worn one bra for over a year. They arrive with absolutely nothing and are extremely grateful for everything!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Since January 2022, we've seen a 35% increase in diaper need. Paired with the rise in costs for diapers and the formula shortage, we are seeing a drastic need in our community. We could use your help replenishing our pantry's size 5 and 6 diapers and wipes.
